Stem Cell Research at The Whittier

A grant from the Larry L. Hillblom Foundation is funding a new initiative into human stem cell research and other progenitor cells to understand the pathways towards insulin production. While islet cell transplantation may be considered the first step towards a cell-based therapy for type 1 diabetes, stem cells offers a most promising lead towards an efficient cell transplant approach to the “cure” of both type 1 and perhaps type 2 diabetes.

In addition to its breadth of our diabetes research, what makes The Whittier Diabetes Research Program unique is the support it gives to research that would otherwise go unfunded. To make a gift to any area or specifically one researcher link to our Ways of Giving page.
